RENNIE HARRIS PUREMOVEMENT CELEBRATES 30 YEARS

What’s good, I am Rennie Harris, the founder, choreographer, and artistic director of Rennie Harris Puremovement – American Street Dance Theater. Founded in 1992, RHPM has emerged as an international Hip-hop and Street dance ambassador. 

We’re celebrating thirty years of street dance theater and we invite you to celebrate with us as we launch three artistic initiatives. We are kicking off our celebration with a remount of one of our most legendary works, Rome & Jewels. Hailed as an Elizabethan masterpiece, Rome & Jewels is based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, reimagined in the streets of Philadelphia. Rome & Jewels broke ground nationally and internationally, winning 3 Bessie Awards, a Shakespeare Theater Award, and a nomination for United Kingdom’s prestigious Lawrence Olivier award, to name just a few.   

We are also excited to announce the creation of two new works. The first is “Losing My Religion,” a retrospective inspired by Rennie Harris’s  life journey, the human experience  and today’s current political and socioeconomic theater. Losing My Religion will include new and old works reimagined to create a dystopian perspective with the purpose of challenging core belief systems and humanity. The second work is titled “American Street Dancer.” This work will honor the history of popular dances and styles nationally and will be narrated by a special guest performer. Featuring dance styles from Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and New York, this multi-visual work will also premiere a “Hip-hop Street Orchestra” that will feature three bucket players, two beat boxers and one DJ.
